This past Friday at the annual Gathering of the Juggalos in Cave-In-Rock Illinois 24 year old Cory Collins of nearby Harrisburg Illinois was found dead in a tent alongside four other sleeping people. Located centrally on the Gathering camp grounds at the “seminar tent”, Collins reportedly wandered over from the “drug bridge” before asking a fellow camper if he had room for a fellow member of the Juggalo “family” to crash in his tent for a little while as he wasn’t feeling well.
Admitting to have taken mescaline, a strong hallucinogen similar to peyote, earlier that day the owner of the tent who returned to check on the man around 2pm must have had one traumatic afternoon. Upon entering the tent the man explained that he went to lift up the mans arm and the whole body followed, having already set into rigor mortis. There was blood coming out of his mouth reported the tent owner and the whole body was cold.
After being woken, the four other members of the tent originally thought they were having a practical joke played on them, as this warped sense of humor would not be out of place amongst the Juggalos. When medics arrived, the surrounding crowd was full of concerned onlookers with ashen faces.
The cause of death is believed to be a heroin overdose however the official statement is pending until the release of the toxicology report from the local coroner. Cave Rock gatherings are no strangers to unfortunate deaths, in 2011 a young man was found drowned in the nearby river and another found dead from dehydration in the woods the year before that. Stay safe music lovers, life is fragile .
