We’ve all been anxious to check out the new Grateful Dead documentary, Long Strange Trip, directed by Amir Bar-Lev and executive produced by Martin Scorsese when it comes to homes across the United States on June 2nd via Amazon Prime Video. However, if you’re anything like us, you might be getting impatient. Luckily, a string of theater showings ahead of Long Strange Trip’s Amazon release has been announced, with dozens of theaters showing the new movie for one night only this week on Thursday, May 25th. These theater screenings will also coincide with screenings at some of the most epic venues from the Grateful Dead’s storied career, including a viewing at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado and The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York. Even though the formal debut of the movie is just around the corner, fans are still devouring up the little tastes of the film that have been slowly being released over the past few weeks.
Watch The Trailer For The New ‘Long Strange Trip’ Grateful Dead Documentary
Yesterday, a clip was released about the different types of Deadheads you might find at a show, ranging from the Wharf Rats to members of the Phil Zone to spinners and more. Today, a new clip from Long Strange Trip has been released, which features Senator Al Franken (and former SNL star) and journalist Nick Paumgarten talking about their experiences on lot at Grateful Dead shows and the culture around the lot scene. In the clip, the two noted Deadheads address the more menacing aspects of the lot, with Franken noting that he didn’t “get” the more hardcore drug culture surrounding the band nor the hippies who went into port-a-potties in bare feet. You can check out the clip below, which was released via the Huffington Post.
