Back in January, Jam Cruise 15 set sail out of Miami, making its annual lap around the Carribean and sporting one of its strongest lineups to date. One highly anticipated act aboard were the funk gurus of Lettuce, who in addition to collaborating and sitting in with a plethora of artists and super jams across the week-long musical extravaganza, put on their own epic sets on Saturday (truly, early Sunday morning) and Monday. For their set on Monday at the Pool Deck, the group secured a coveted spot and packed the area with fans ahead of Break Science’s late-night preceding performance. To say that energy was high is an understatement, as evidenced by this recently released video of the funk act working through “Purple Cabbage” aboard the boat.

From the melodious and ambient horn intro onward, Lettuce treated Jam Cruise 15 to a truly soulful rendition of the number. Masters of building up a song, Lettuce’s “Purple Cabbage” highlights the group’s musicality and ability to dial in an audience with their penchant for smooth grooves and slinking riffs. You can check out the video of Lettuce laying into “Purple Cabbage” aboard Jam Cruise 15 below, courtesy of the band and TourGigs.

One of the benefits of Jam Cruise and what makes it such a highly anticipated event each year is the intimacy provided by being trapped on a boat in the middle of the ocean with your favorite musicians—the event is chockful of awesome collaborations that are unlikely to go down elsewhere due to the fact that such huge name musicians rarely gather together will open schedules specifically for hanging out and making music. The magical musical experience that is Jam Cruise will be setting sails next January, when Jam Cruise 16 takes over the Norwegian Jade from January 17th through 22nd. After it embarks from Miami, Florida, the cruise will round through Roatan, Honduras, and Grand Cayman during its weeklong circuit.
