A concert poster promoting the Grateful Dead back in 1966 has sold for an astounding $56,400 during an online auction held last week.
The auction held last Thursday by Psychedelic Art Exchange allowed music fans and art investors to bid on nearly 200 collectible vintage concert posters and handbills ranging from the Dead to Jimi Hendrix and Bo Diddley.

The “Skull and Roses” poster promoting the famous rock band’s performances at the Avalon Ballroom on September 16th-17th, 1966 was co-designed by Alton Kelley and Stanley Mouse. The band would go on to use the famous skeleton and roses imagery for one of their official logos later on in their career. Another one of the band’s concert posters for the Avalon Ballroom in August 1966 sold for a less costly price of just $6,600, but uniquely featured the Grateful Dead misspelled as, “Greatful Dead.”
It’s worth noting that the “Wolf” guitar once owned by Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia sold for a ridiculous $3.2 Million back in June 2017.
Some of the other notable items sold to online bidders during last week’s event included a 1966 Bo Diddley concert poster for $3,900, and a 1968 Jimi Hendrix poster promoting a gig at the Fillmore East signed by artist David Byrd for $7,800.
