Dr. Dre, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, and Snoop Dogg will perform at the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show, the NFL announced on Thursday. The news arrived just before the league kicked off its week four slate of games and served as a blessing to hip hop fans around the globe.
On Sunday, February 13th, 2022, millions of people will watch the hip-hop legends take the stage at the newly-constructed SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA for a performance that is sure to rank among the best Super Bowl Halftime performances ever. Marking the first Super Bowl in Los Angeles since 1993—when the Dallas Cowboys trounced the Buffalo Bills 52-17—it only made sense to have a few LA county natives on the bill; and what more prolific artists could one conjure but Compton’s own Dr. Dre and Kendrick Lamar, and Inglewood’s Snoop Dogg.

“The opportunity to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show, and to do it in my own backyard, will be one of the biggest thrills of my career,” he added in a press release, according to People. “I’m grateful to JAY-Z, Roc Nation, the NFL, and Pepsi as well as Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar for joining me in what will be an unforgettable cultural moment.”
“Artists like Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg were at the forefront of the West Coast hip hop revolution, so to be able to bring them back to LA, where it all began alongside Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar will prove to be an epic, unforgettable celebration of the impact hip hop has today,” remarked Todd Kaplan, VP of Marketing at Pepsi, in the press release.
This news came on the heels of an album announcement from Kendrick Lamar in August. The hip-hop mainstay explained in a somewhat cryptic note to fans that he is currently working on his final album with label Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE). Presumed to be titled Oklama, the album will serve as the much-anticipated follow-up to 2017’s DAMN.
