Tim Reynolds Trio (TR3) brought its 2022 winter tour through Fairfield, CT’s StageOne at FTC on Wednesday night. The three-piece outfit, led by Dave Matthews Band guitarist Tim Reynolds, delivered a 105-minute performance of songs old and new, as well as some select covers throughout the night.
After taking the stage, Reynolds, bassist Mick Vaughn, and drummer Dan Martier launched into one of the newest TR3 tracks, “On This Mountain, Born In Clouds”. The band then threw it back to 2003 with “Radar Contact”, off Reynolds’ Chaos View album. As the trio moved through a career-spanning setlist the vibes went from heavier rock to more mellow numbers with Reynolds switching between electric and acoustic guitars throughout the evening. The eponymous frontman took extended, hard-rocking solos on songs like “Victory Express”, while others like “Ley Lines” carried a more melodic and rollicking groove.
Midway through the set, TR3 offered three covers in a row, starting with a debut of Mark Knopfler‘s “Songs for Sonny Liston”, followed by Eno · Hyde‘s “Who Rings the Bell”, and finally The Doors‘ “Riders on the Storm”, from the band’s 1971 album, L.A. Woman. Later in the evening, the band broke out into a cover of Peter Gabriel‘s “Mercy Street” ahead of a take on David Bowie‘s “Breaking Glass”. “Breaking Glass” eventually segued to Bowie’s “Rebel Rebel” before settling into another TR3 original, “Cave Man” and encoring with “a piece of love music,” “Golden Flower”.

From there the band will head to Ardmore Music Hall in Ardmore, PA (1/21), followed by The Strand Theatre in Hudson Falls, NY (1/22).
