Dave Matthews Band guitarist Tim Reynolds has shared a music video for his new single, “Guardian Angels”, featuring Nikki Glaspie (The Nth Power, Maceo Parker, Beyonce) on drums and percussion.

Rather than releasing the single on major music streaming platforms, Reynolds has made the audio available only as a download via the official CommunityZ RecordZ official pages, with proceeds from all purchases of the song benefitting the Charlottesville Public Housing Association of Residents (PHAR).

The single hears Tim Reynolds’ acoustic guitar dance across the sonic soundscapes created by Nikki Glaspie’s drums and percussion rhythms. Throughout the song, Reynolds creates harmonic passages and combines them with tightly plucked phrases that sit atop layers of drums, bass, and stringed instruments.

Reynolds and Glaspie have quietly raised thousands of dollars for PHAR since the song’s release late last month. PHAR aims to educate and empower low-income residents of Charlottesville, VA—a town undergoing sweeping cultural changes—with the ability to protect and improve their community through collective action. The organization has dedicated itself to advocating for and working closely with public housing residents and is entirely governed by public housing residents and one Section 8 resident.

With this project, Reynolds has been able to give back to his former hometown while contributing an earnest effort to protecting its integrity.

“I feel incredibly lucky to even be able to support a group like PHAR, and that they exist in a town that is forever dear to my heart,” said Reynolds in a press release. He continued, “As far as the chance to work with someone of the musical caliber of Nikki Glaspie, I couldn’t jump fast enough.”

Throughout the video, the viewer is presented with clips of the removal of Robert E. Lee‘s statue from the city while onlookers film with cell phones. Clips filmed in the heart of Charlottesville are intertwined with cuts of Glaspie and Reynolds tracking their portions of the song.
