Ocean man, take me by the hand. Lead me to the land that you understand.

If there’s one thing Mickey Melchiondo (aka Dean Ween) loves more than playing guitar barefoot, it’s fishing. Next month, the Ween co-founder will appear on Saltwater Underground with Nick Honachefsky, a fishing show recently picked up by Discovery Channel.

The show stars fellow avid fisherman and New Jersey resident Nick Honachefsky and is approaching its third season. The episode starring Deaner, titled “Jersey Shore Rock Star Fluke”, will air at 5:30 a.m. ET on July 10th during the Discovery Channel’s block of fishing programming.

“Nick invites legendary frontman, rock star guitarist and good friend Dean Ween out with Capt. Pat Murphy to ply the fluke grounds off of NJ,” a description of the episode reads. “Rip-roaring fun using secret tactics to pull up doormat caliber fluke. Cooking segment with consummate celebrity chef Josh DeChellis of Juniper Hill.”

Saltwater Underground is the latest entry in Deaner’s film reel of TV fishing appearances, which also includes a 2012 spot on blink-182 singer Mark Hoppus‘ eponymous talk show. For a time, Deaner also hosted his own DIY fishing show, BTFS (Brownie Troop Fishing Show), on YouTube, which would occasionally include high-profile guests such as Les Claypool and Nicole Atkins. The channel, much like his personal account, eventually devolved into a place to find Ween guitar instructional videos, semi-pro clips of Deaner’s various gigs, and more until it went dark three years ago.

All episodes of Saltwater Underground are filmed in New Jersey, where Dean used to charter fishing expeditions during Ween’s hiatus from 2011–2016. Ween is currently out on tour for a West Coast run of 4th of July dates, however, the band was forced to cancel the past two shows in Boise, ID and Missoula, MT due to a positive COVID test within the group. The band stated on Tuesday that “At this time all other dates are planned to happen as scheduled.”
