As the eyes of the world remain trained on Quatar for the 2022 World Cup, Gorillaz have launched a penalty kick shootout computer game.

The simple, low-tech game lets you square off against Noodle, one of four animated members of the “virtual” band, in a best-of-five showdown. As you play, selections from the forthcoming new Gorillaz album, Cracker Island, serve as the stadium soundtrack.

If you win the game—or register for Cracker Island pre-order via the Gorillaz store here—you can be entered into a sweepstakes to win a custom Gorillaz football kit (that’s soccer, for all the folks in the States). Play the new Gorillaz shootout game here.

The Gorillaz penalty shootout computer game is the latest in a string of promotional elements for Cracker Island, due out on February 24th, 2023 via Parlophone. Marking the eighth LP for the unique Damon Albarn-helmed project, Cracker Island will feature guest appearances from a long list of Gorillaz collaborators new and old including Stevie Nicks, Tame Impala, Beck, Bad Bunny, Thundercat, Bootie Brown (The Pharcyde), and Adeleye Omotayo.

Gorillaz have preceded the album’s release with a number of singles including the titular “Cracker Island” (featuring Thundercat), “Baby Queen“, and “New Gold” (featuring Tame Impala and Bootie Brown). Pre-order your copy of Cracker Island by Gorillaz available here.
