Magic Beans celebrated the release of their new studio album Impendo Destructo on Saturday with a crowd of home-state fans at Summit in Denver. The eight-track album marked The Beans’ first studio release since Unzipped in 2022 and follows 2020’s Slice of Life as the jam band’s third album of the decade.

To open the show, Magic Beans tapped Midwest jamtronic staple Dizgo and local Denver up-and-comer Groundloop. As Magic Beans frontman Scott Hachey revealed ahead of Saturday’s encore, all three bands will cross paths again this summer at Magic Beans’ curated Beanstalk Music & Arts Festival. Set for August 7th–9th in Rancho Del Rio, CO, the festival will feature three nights of Beans plus sets from Dogs In A PilelespecialSpace BaconPhoton (ft. Dopapod’s Neal “Fro” Evans), and more. The band is set to reveal the initial lineup in the coming weeks.

For Saturday’s show, Magic Beans peppered in cuts from the new disc alongside time-honored originals. “Obscure the Sun” opened the show as it does Impendo Destructo, as the Beans alternated between classics “Give Me Something Real” and new tracks “Senses”. The band also rattled off its unique MGMT meets Gorillaz mashup “Electric Feel Good Inc” for some Millenial nostalgia, before a sandwich of “Impendo Destructo” > “Rock It” > “Impendo Destructo” formed an improvisational centerpiece of the set. New songs “Black & Blue” and “Set Me Free” also saw some extended live tellings alongside “Footprints in the Rain” and “Sharon is Karen” which closed the set. After Hachey previewed the yet-unannounced Beanstalk lineup, the band piled high one more jam sandwich for the encore with “Here On Out” > “Kernkraft 400” > “Here On Out”.
