Louisiana born soul-rock singer Kristin Diable put on a boot-stomping performance at One Eyed Jacks in New Orleans last Friday, October 9th. Her performance was calculated, but her talent spoke for itself. Her voice is best described as raw, sensual, and honest; her lyrics smooth and relatable. Diable headed her all male band with guitar in hand, and a rockstar persona rivaling the likes of Grace Potter. Her charisma charmed the audience and gave her full command, with which she used to give an uninhibited performance that teetered perfectly between being overwhelming and intoxicating.

Diable was accompanied by the opening act Palmyra, an earthy and harmonious New Orleans Folk Rock band. Palmyra’s love for music and genuine connection to one another was evident by their performance. Their cohesion and enjoyment touched the crowd and raised the spirit and the energy levels in the room.

Diable harnessed the heat of Palmyra’s performance and led the crowd to clap, stomp, sing, and dance the night away. She leveled with the crowd by revealing relatable stories of triumphs and troubles past. She commented how visiting Morocco accidentally during Ramadan led her to write “True Devotion”.

Two moments that were particularly touching were when she stripped her performance down and offered vulnerable a cappella intros to her final two songs. It was especially in these moments that Diable showcased the strength of her voice, clarity of her mind, and trueness of her heart. Diable’s talent and confidence were undeniable. They made her performance a rich experience. As her Fall tour moves onward out of Louisiana, and into Europe for the release of her new album, Create Your Own Mythology, Diable will surely impress and captivate many audiences to come.
