Some nights feel like more than just a concert. Approaching Boston’s newest venue , the 3,500-capacity Roadrunner—it was clear that Bleachers performing 2017’s Gone Now in full was not just another tour coming through.

Fans wrapped almost all the way around the massive building even before doors opened. This wasn’t just a show, it felt like a celebration—of a new venue, sure, but even more so of Bleachers and the connection the band shares with its fans.

It was Jack Antonoff and company’s second night performing an album in its entirety; they had played their debut album, 2014’s Strange Desire, the night before. Many fans reported having traveled from across the country for the two-nights stine. The energy was palpable with signs, film cameras, and costumes even before opener Charly Bliss came on.

By the time Antonoff and Bleachers took the stage, the crowd was ready to explode. There was not a soul who wasn’t fully engaged. Antonoff initially sported his costume from the Gone Now album cover before taking it off for a white shirt and the occasional jacket.

From “Dreams of Mickey Mantle” all the way through hits like “Everybody Lost Somebody” (especially relevant since the pandemic) and “Let’s Get Married”, the music buzzed with life and fans sang along to every word.

By the time the band finished the album and tossed in a few assorted extras like “Rollercoaster” and the newer “Don’t Take The Money” and”How Dare You Want More”, the two-night engagement in Boston felt like the culmination of years of work.

Sure, Bleachers and Antonoff have played to bigger crowds. He’s won tons of awards and worked with the world’s top artists. But seeing his most diehard fans come together for two special nights—nights that can’t be replicated—feels like an achievement neither the fans nor Antonoff will take for granted.
