Jay Cobb Anderson continues to build momentum towards the August 23rd (this Friday) release of his new solo EP, Everything Is Gonna Work Its Own Self Out. Today, ahead of the album’s Friday arrival, Live For Live Music is excited to premiere the Fruition multi-instrumentalist/vocalist/songwriter’s new music video for the album’s title track, which takes viewers into a chaotic kitchen scene worthy of the explosive song it accompanies.
The video stars fellow musician Megan Letts (Mama Magnolia) who, after spilling her plate of pasta, becomes engulfed in anger and fury relatable to anyone who has ever ruined their dinner after a long day at the office. It’s only after the plate falls to the ground that the music comes in—and the black-and-white aesthetic turns technicolor—to drive home the maddening chaos going on inside the her mind (and kitchen).
From there, she turns the room into her own destruction zone and she decides to go all-in on releasing as much pent-up energy as possible while the song soundtracks the frustration unfolding in front of the camera. Anyone who has ever wanted to just say ‘screw it’ and break everything they own should get a kick out of watching her go through her manic range of emotions. Anderson even makes a brief cameo between shots of her ongoing run of self-destruction.
The song itself runs at a quick but equally intoxicating 1:54-minutes in length, capturing a bolt of untamable energy as Anderson and (alongside Fruition bassist Jeff Leonard and drummer Tyler Thompson) powers through the fuzzed-out rock track. Fans should make sure to listen closely, as the song ends as quickly as it begins.
“As an artist, there is a constant desire that drives us to translate the visions we have in our heads. Most of the time these visions played out in real-time, turn out nothing like the original versions, and a healthy frustration dumps more fuel in the tank to keep on keepin’ on,” Anderson explains to Live For Live Music about the new video. “A gargantuan thanks to Tobin Voggesser for running the cameras and cutting up the film with the utmost detail and finesse… And the highest praise to the brilliant genius, and unwavering grace of Miss Megan Letts; who embodied all of the slight but crucial nuances, and took on the tremendous duty to portray the madness necessary with ease and a potency unmatched by anyone I can think of. So here it is folks! I hope you enjoy the ride!”

As Jay explains about the new EP, “Everything Is Gonna Work It’s Own Self Out is a collection of misfit songs that needed to be released out into the world. There’s a delicious spread of steaming gritty ragers, and sweet juicy tenders, with a garnish of social commentary, that was prepared with the freshest ingredients (Tyler Thompson on drums, and Jeff Leonard on bass) and are sure to induce all the feels, and fulfill the holy craving of the souls hungry void.”
Jay Cobb Anderson will perform a mix of shows throughout Colorado in the coming weeks starting with a performance at Cervantes’ Other Side with Guilty Pleasures with Megan Letts and Ashley Niven on September 6th, followed by three gigs in late December opening for John Craigie.
Anderson is currently on tour with Fruition throughout the remainder of the summer including a show supporting the Wood Brothers at Red Rocks with an ongoing schedule of shows which continuing until September 21st. Head to Jay’s website for tickets and tour information for upcoming shows
