Mick Jagger will once again don the silver screen with his upcoming role in The Burnt Orange Heresy, whose trailer was released Friday. The film, directed by Giuseppe Capotondi, finds The Rolling Stones frontman in his first major acting gig since The Man From Elysian Fields in 2001.

This movie finds Jagger in the role of Joseph Cassidy, an underhanded art dealer who attempts to convince James Figueras (Claes Bang) to steal a painting from reclusive artist Jerome Debney (Donald Sutherland) in exchange for unrestricted access to the mysterious painter, who just so happens to be living on Cassidy’s massive property on Lake Como in Italy.  According to a synopsis, “soon James’ greed and ambition get the better of him, and he finds himself caught in a web of his own making.”

The Burnt Orange Heresy has just finished making the rounds at international film festivals and is set for release in the United States March 6th. So far the film has received lukewarm reviews from critics, including one from Screen Daily that begins, “two extended cameos from Donald Sutherland and Mick Jagger pour sauce on an undercooked art world neo-noir in Italian director Giuseppe Capotondi’s second feature and first English-language project.” Screening information will be made available through Sony Pictures Classics.

The Rolling Stones wrapped up their No Filter Tour of the United States last fall, and haven’t made any further tour announcements. More recently, the band released a concert film Bridges To Buenos Aires documenting their performance on April 5th, 1988 at River Plate Stadium in Argentina.
