Last night at Brooklyn Bowl saw a bevy of incredible artists come together to celebrate the life of the great Levon Helm, who passed away on April 19th of this year from cancer. Bustle in Your Hedgerow members Joe Russo, Marco Benevento, Dave Dreiwitz, and Scott Metzger led an all-star lineup that included Craig Finn & Tab Kubler (The Hold Steady), Tom Hamilton (Brothers Past/American Babies), Ryan Miller (Guster), Phosphorescent, Nicole Atkins, Diamond Doves, members of the Felice Brothers, Grayson Capps, Family Band, Kelli Scarr, Yellowbirds, Thieving Irons and Luke Rathborne.
The night saw musicians rotate in and out from song to song, and having a good time while paying tribute to a man that was beyond respected in the music world for his work with The Band, and for his Midnight Rambles up at his barn in Woodstock, NY. These rambles brought together musicians ranging from Garth Hudson, Elvis Costello, Chris Robinson, Dr. John, Larry Campbell, Donald Fagen, Kris Kristofferson, Phil Lesh, David Bromberg, as well as both Joe Russo and Marco Benevento (who were part of the core band last night), just to name a few.

The proceeds for the evening’s festivities are going to help save The Barn up in Woodstock, where the legendary Midnight Rambles took place. Every song was special in its own right to both those on stage, as well as in the crowd. “Evangeline”, “Dirt Farmer”, “Up On Cripple Creek”, “Deep Elem Blues”, “I Shall Be Released”, and of course “The Weight” had many in the crowd either singing along, or just simply smiling in remembrance of the man that gave his all to the music he loved. Noah Chernin, Pete Costello, and Adam Geringer-Dunn in put together a great tribute to one of the best musicians there ever was.
We will miss you Levon, but you will always be remembered.
