New Orleans royalty Aaron and Ivan Neville joined together with Dirty Dozen Brass Band for the new single, “Stomping Ground”. The star-studded studio track is set to appear in the upcoming documentary Take Me To The River: New Orleans, documenting the musical lineage of the Crescent City. The film’s soundtrack is out on out on April 1st via Petaluma Records.
Vocalist Aaron Neville helms the track, backed up by his brother Ivan on keys and the buoyant Dirty Dozen Brass Band horn section. The Meters bassist George Porter Jr. helps round out the low end as Charles Neville, Ian Neville, Big Sam, and Eric Krasno all lend a hand. Throughout the track, Aaron highlights the Big Easy’s best and brightest from Professor Longhair to Dr. John to Fats Domino to “the great Satchmo” Louis Armstrong.
“The most amazing part of the ‘Stompin’ Ground’ session and the song is how seamlessly and quickly all the musicians came together, but it’s no surprise when you are talking about New Orleans music royalty under the musical direction of producer Eric Krasno!” Take Me To The River: New Orleans director Martin Shore told Relix. “Aaron Neville, Charles Neville, Ivan Neville, Ian Neville, George Porter Jr., and The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, were simply amazing. After a short rehearsal it was a one take wonder! Everybody involved was on their A-Game. ‘Stompin’ Ground’ really embodies what Take Me to the River: New Orleans film, record, and live show represents. Demonstrating diverse inclusive collaborations highlighting one of the World’s most important cultural jewels and music community, New Orleans!”
Take Me To The River: New Orleans serves as a follow-up to Shore’s original 2014 documentary on Memphis, Take Me To The River. The film’s soundtrack will host new material from Snoop Dogg, Jon Batiste, PJ Morton, G-Eazy, Big Freedia, Galactic, Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, Dumpstaphunk, William Bell, Ani DiFranco, Donald Harrison, and Ledisi. The 36-track collection will also feature new recordings from one of The Neville Brothers’ final performances and one of Dr. John’s last studio sessions.
