Soulive drummer Alan Evans has something to share from his project The 7 Day Weekend with news of a sophomore album, Dream Fantastic, alongside the lead single, “Show and Tell”. The duo with Evans’ Alan Evans Trio bandmate Kris Yunker made its debut back in 2020 with a self-titled release.

“Show and Tell” taps into the vintage qualities that spawned 7 Day Weekend as an avenue for Evans and Yunker to express their love for ’60s and ’70s film composers, with Evans referring to the band’s sound as “electrorganic music.” With help from special guest Nephrok! (Nephtaliem McCrary) of The Nephrok! Allstars, the song hits a classic R&B tone with a bouncy earworm chorus that successfully masks some of the song’s darker themes.

“There’s always been a challenge in the synchronicity between words and actions in the human experience,” Nephrok! said. “It transcends all aspects of life, but this particular song was inspired by a relationship I was in. The struggle of bringing into harmony thoughts and emotions while healing from traumas and managing impulses was life’s beautiful poetry. The title and hook came to me while I was scribbling lyrics and trying to write what I was feeling while my son was simultaneously asking me what to bring to school for show and tell.”
