Aretha Franklin has been posthumously awarded the Pulitzer Prize’s Special Citation. The “Queen of Soul” received the award for her “indelible contribution to American music and culture for more than five decades.”
Aretha Franklin, who passed away last year at the age of 76, is one of 44 recipients, less than a dozen musicians, and the first female artist to receive the Pulitzers’ Special Citation, with previous winners including Bob Dylan, Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, Hank Williams, and more.
