Those who were in the right place at the right time on Monday caught wind of a Benevento/Russo Duo acoustic pop-up livestream presented via Relix at 5:00 p.m. ET. Announced shortly before the pair went live from Relix Studios via the magazine’s official Twitch channel, the roughly 20-minute stream fired a warning shot across many fan’s bows who had been clamoring for a reunion of the instrumental duo.

While some may have been dismayed at the brevity of Monday’s stream, it evidently came as just a preview of things to come. Watch the full video of the surprise Benevento/Russo Duo pop-up stream below.

On Saturday, the Benevento/Russo Duo will go live once again for another rare acoustic performance. The stream will be of a “rare” variety for a number of reasons— from the fact that they rarely performed acoustic sets even in their heydey some 15–20 years ago to the fact that there hasn’t been a Duo show of any kind in almost four years.

Despite not having played a show in all that time, there has been a revitalized interest in the group comprised of drummer Joe Russo and keyboardist Marco Benevento. Last year, the Benevento/Russo Duo once again began making waves with the announcement from Royal Potato Family that the Duo’s second and third albums—2005’s Best Reasons To Buy The Sun and 2006’s Play Pause Stop—would be reissued on vinyl as well as digital platforms. The long-dormant project showed other signs of life with a track-by-track rundown of Best Reasons To Buy The Sun, hosted by Freaks Action Network, featuring the two musicians which occurred back in January.
