This week, Orion Pictures released some first-look photos of the upcoming third installment of the time-traveling Bill & Ted saga, Bill & Ted Face The Music, due out on August 21st, 2020.

For those unfamiliar, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989) follows a pair of air-headed aspiring musicians—Bill S. Preston, Esq. (Alex Winter) and Ted “Theodore” Logan (Keanu Reeves)—whose band, Wyld Stallynz (pronounced “Wild Stallions”), faces certain doom if they can’t pass their History final. However, in the future, Wyld Stallynz have saved humanity as the greatest band of all time, so an ambassador from the future (played by the late George Carlin) heads back to 1989 to lend Bill and Ted a time-traveling telephone booth to help the would-be rock and roll saviors with their report. Shenanigans—and an endless supply of quotable lines—ensue. The sequel, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey (1991), continued the pair’s high-concept sci-fi hijinx, including a battle with Death himself and a trip into the future for intensive music training to realize their destiny as musical saviors. Since ’91, however, we haven’t heard from Bill and Ted.

Set decades after the events of the second Bill & Ted film, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, the new film will find the titular characters struggling to write the Wyld Stallynz song that saves the world. A visitor from the future visits the middle-aged heroes to make sure they stay on track, and Bill and Ted—and their teenage daughters—embark on yet another time-traveling adventure to secure the fate of humanity.

In the three new images shared by Orion indicate that some fan-favorite characters and imagery will return in Bill & Ted 3. The first (seen below) shows Bill and Ted back in their time-traveling phone booth. The second (shown above) sees them once again conferring with Death. The third (below) is a shot of what appears to be their daughters along with a new character played by rapper/actor Kid Cudi.
