Billy & the Kids celebrated Halloween at The Mountain Winery in Saratoga, CA with assistance from Andrew and Brad Barr (The Slip, The Barr Brothers).

Bill Kreutzmann, Tom Hamilton, Reed Mathis, Aron Magner, and the Barr brothers opened the show with “Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”. The Beatles favorite continued a pattern of classic rock covers from the band’s recent Capitol Theatre run, which included songs by The Who, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, and more.

It also seemed to indicate that the band might honor the holiday with some kind of musical costume, but the transition from “Sgt Pepper’s” into “Terrapin Station” signaled a return to the group’s usual Grateful Dead songbook.

The one exception was the Halloween-appropriate “Psycho Killer” by Talking Heads, which was one of several songs to feature guitarist Brad Barr on lead vocals. Andrew Barr, meanwhile, sat behind a drum set to Kreutzmann’s right alternating between traditional Grateful Dead-style double drumming and auxiliary percussion duties.
