Billy Strings kicked off the week with the surprise release of a new live album and the announcement of a string of trio shows with Bryan Sutton and Royal Masat. The album, Live At The Legion, documents Strings and Sutton’s show at the American Legion Inglewood Post 82 in Nashville on April 7th, 2024, one year ago today.

The run of seven trio shows will take Strings, Sutton, and Masat to four cities across the Southeast. The brief tour will fittingly begin at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum‘s Woodward Theatre in Owensboro, KY on September 5th and 6th before heading to The Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC on September 11th and 12th. After that, Strings will return home for two nights at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium on September 14th and 15th ahead of the tour closer at Chattanooga’s The Signal on September 16th.

Until September comes, fans can get the Billy & Bryan experience with Live At The Legion. Available now across streaming platforms, the 20-track release strips back Strings’ frenzied live experience to its bare essence and recalls his debut release Rock of Ageswith mandolinist Don Julin (and even shares a few tracks with their 2014 album Fiddle Tune X).

Live At The Legion includes covers of Bob Dylan and Blaze Foley plus plenty of traditional folk songs recorded by Doc Watson, The Stanley Brothers, and other bluegrass luminaries. Given the venue’s capacity of only a few hundred—compared to the arenas Strings regularly fills—tickets for the American Legion show were a hot commodity, so much so that fans without tickets were urged to stay home rather than show up hoping for a miracle.
