Less Than Face Productions has shared a video of Billy Strings covering Bob Dylan‘s “Señor (Tales of Yankee Power)” with The Lil SmokiesJake Simpson and Andy Dunnigan from the band’s first set at Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival on July 19th, 2019.

The song came amid a single-set performance that saw Billy Strings (born William Apostol) and his band play originals new and old, as well as covers of bluegrass staples. After opening with a cover of Larry Sparks‘ “Slow Train”, Strings and his band ran through the original “Pyramid”, Jim & Jesse‘s “Airmail Special”, “Doin’ Things Right”, “Dealing Despair”, and John Hartford‘s “Today”.

Another Hartford cover, “All Fall Down”, led to a cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival‘s “Proud Mary” before Simpson and Dunnigan of The Lil Smokies joined Billy Strings on stage. A run through Tony Rice‘s “Tipper” led to the take on Dylan’s “Señor (Tales of Yankee Power)”. The song featured Strings’ powerful vocals and six-string work, however, Simpson’s fiddle and Dunnigan’s dobro really shined through on this tune. Midway through the song, a solo section allowed both to show off their chops before Strings and mandolinist Jarrod Walker took solos of their own.

The set then concluded with a cover of Keith Allison‘s “Freeborn Man”, a “Turmoil & Tinfoil” “Spinning” sandwich, and a cover of the Stanley Brothers‘ “How Mountain Girls Can Love”. Check out the performance of “Señor (Tales of Yankee Power)” below with this pro-shot video:
