A tribute to Black Sabbath like no other will put the horns in devil horns when Blackened Sabbath takes over the Toulouse Theatre in New Orleans, LA on Friday, April 25th (technically early a.m. April 26th) [ticketing details].

Led by eclectic funk collective Trulio Disgracias, Blackened Sabbath will feature special guests Nikki Glaspie (drums, The Nth Power), Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph (vocals, Galactic), Eric McFadden (guitar), Kate Vargas (vocals), Brian Haas (keys, Jacob Fred Odyssey), and the Dumpstaphunk Horns—Alex Wasily (trombone) and Ashlin Parker (trumpet). They will join ringmasters Trulio Disgracias, the nutty 40-legged funk beast led by Fishbone’s Norwood Fisher and John Steward alongside Luis Oliart.

Among the sea of late-night Jazz Fest tributes, a funky celebration of Black Sabbath is a bit out of the ordinary. The pioneering U.K. metal act founded by Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward weren’t exactly big on horn sections, and though “Paranoid” is thematically similar to Stevie Wonder‘s “Superstition”, the two stylistic touchstones have little else in common. Where Sabbath and the funky world of Trulio Disgracias do intersect is in propulsive rhythm sections, which Blackened Sabbath will amplify with plenty of special guest assistance.
