Bob Weir returned to the stage with Wolf Bros at Utah’s Park City Song Summit on Friday for his first public performance since the end of Dead & Company‘s Final Tour. Joined by the Wolfpack strings and horns, the band kicked off a 13-date run with an exceptionally stirring set elevated yet further by special guests Brittney Spencer, Rambin’ Jack Elliott, and J.D. Souther.

All three guests have sat in with Wolf Bros before: Ramblin’ Jack Elliott has collaborated with Bob Weir several times over the years, most recently during a guest-filled, five-night trio run at The Guild Theatre in Menlo Park, CA. He once again sat in on a cover of Bob Dylan‘s “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight” on Friday, just as he did then.

Spencer previously joined the band on a string of tunes at Radio City Music Hall in 2022. The standout from that set, “Looks Like Rain”, got a reprise on Friday as Spencer and Weir tag-teamed lead vocals in what was a highlight of the performance once again.

J.D. Souther, who recently joined Weir for some experiments in onstage songwriting, was the last of the three guests to sit in on Friday. Rather than writing something on the spot, he lent a hand on a cover of the Eagles’ “Heartache Tonight”.

Other highlights of the set included heavenly arrangements of “Terrapin Station Suite” and “Weather Report Suite”.

The band will return to the stage on Sunday, September 10th as part of Willie Nelson‘s Outlaw Music Festival and recently announced a concert with the Stanford Symphony Orchestra following the group’s September tour dates. Visit Weir’s website for a full list of shows and to purchase tickets.
