Last week, the legendary William “Bootsy” Collins of Parliament Funkadelic announced that he would be canceling his remaining tour dates so that he could seek treatment for and remove a tumor located in his ear. While Collins was unsure how long the surgery and subsequent recovery process would necessitate him to not tour, Collins seemed to be in high spirits. The bass guru radiated his characteristic positivity in his statement, noting that “all things happen for a reason no matter what it looks like to us.” The funk bassist also stated that he was “not concerned” about the upcoming procedure, reaffirming his faith in “The One,” and then cracking a joke, Monty Python-style (“Just a flesh wound!”). Bootsy Collins has also stated that he’s been in talks with Larry Graham of Sly and the Family Stone and Graham Central Station to fill in for him on the road while he’s in recovery.

Late last night, Bootsy Collins issued another statement via his Facebook, showing that his positivity reigned supreme and that bassist underwent a successful surgery yesterday. In the post, Collins explained that the tumor had been located on his ear drum and that the process of removing the tumor had caused temporary hearing loss in his right ear as well as thrown off his equilibrium. Luckily, Collins seems to be all fine and well, and now is on the road to recovery. The funk master ended his optimistic post by asking funkateers to keep holding him up and to keep sharing the love vibes and prayers. Needless to say, that won’t be a problem for his fans. We love you, Bootsy, and we’re excited to see you get better and get back on the road!
