Brandi Carlile is no stranger to collaboration. Last year, the seven-time Grammy winner (counting her 2021 victory with The Highwomen) teamed up with pop extraordinaire Alicia Keys for the moving duet, “A Beautiful Noise“. However, it appears that Carlile’s latest collaborator comes from the screen rather than the stage, with Friends star Courteney Cox posting a clip of the two performing Carlile’s “The Joke” on Tuesday.

This story began back in February 2020 when Cox, a more than capable keyboardist, posted a clip of her covering Carlie’s “The Joke”. It also didn’t hurt that she had a well-tuned partner in her boyfriend Gary Lightbody (Snow Patrol) as they tackled the By The Way, I Forgive You track. It would appear that Cox’s practice paid off as she found herself sharing the stage with the songwriter herself.

“Dreams really do come true!! I got to play one of my favorite songs with one of my favorite artists, Brandi Carlile,” Cox captioned the Instagram video of the performance. “A little over a year ago I posted a video playing her song, The Joke, with @garysnowpatrol and that’s how we met (thanks Instagram!). We made a plan for her to come over on March 15th but…we all know the story. Well, it FINALLY happened!! So fun!! #thrilled #musicsundays”
