Brian Wilson takes a drive to escape his own mind in the trailer for the new documentary, Brian Wilson: Long Promised Road. The film is set to land in theaters and video-on-demand services on November 19th.

Filmed in a series of interviews with former Rolling Stone Editor-In-Chief Jason Fine, Wilson revisits scenes from his seven-decade career in music. Though not all of these memories are pleasant, it’s the setting of the interview that coaxed the quiet genius into the project in the first place.

“The idea of doing an interview makes Brian nervous,” Fine says in the trailer. “So I’ll often ask if we can just take a drive, and listen to some music.”

Also featured in the trailer for Long Promised Road are Elton JohnBruce SpringsteenDon WasLinda PerryTaylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters), and Nick Jonas. Wilson’s work needs no introduction from big-name stars, and the crux of the documentary is the mobile interviews he does with Fine. Numerous attempts have been made to dive into the tragic brilliance of the Beach Boys’ chief songwriter with varying degrees of success, most infamously his 1991 memoir Wouldn’t It Be Nice, which court documents revealed was heavily influenced by Wilson’s then-Svengali Eugene Landy.

Long Promised Road, however, delivers Wilson in his own words. He is still the same fragile boy that wrote some of the 1960s most influential masterpieces, looking out the window toward the shore just as he did all those years ago. Fine holds Wilson’s hand through the interviews, sometimes literally, as the songwriter peels back the layers of his rise, fall, and redemption.

The documentary will also feature a new song, “Right Where I Belong”, written by Wilson and Jim James (My Morning Jacket) for the film. Also appearing in the documentary are Al JardineJakob Dylan, and Gustavo Dudamel.
