Childish Gambino, the hit-making music alter-ego of entertainment multi-hyphenate Donald Glover, has postponed the remainder of the North American dates on his ongoing New World Tour. Glover was due to continue his arena trek throughout September and into early October with notable stops in Austin, Dallas, Denver, Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver, Portlant, Seattle, Chicago, and more.

The postponements began on Sunday, September 8th when Childish Gambino announced via social media that he was postponing that night’s performance at Houston, TX’s Toyota Center due to “illness.” He noted at that time that fans were encouraged to hold onto their tickets and that all tickets would be honored for the rescheduled date. The following afternoon, on what was due to be an off day ahead of planned shows in Austin (9/10) and Dallas (9/11), Glover once again took to social media to clear the rest of his North American itinerary for the coming weeks.

“hey everyone,” he wrote. “unfortunately i have to postpone the rest of the north american tour to focus on my physical health for a few weeks. hold onto your tickets. ALL tickets will be honored for the upcoming dates in north america when they are rescheduled.” He did not provide a specific reason for the postponements but did offer fans a “thanks for the privacy.” He has not yet commented on the status of the upcoming European leg of the New World Tour, which is currently set to begin in Lyon, France on October 31st (spooky, scary).

Donald Glover awakened his long-dormant Childish Gambino endeavor earlier this year with the release of Atavista, the “completed” version of his early-pandemic 3.15.20 album, which arrived via an unorthodox rollout on March 15th, 2020 with only two of its tracks featuring actual titles. While 3.15.20 was generally well-received by critics, it failed to make the same commercial impact as prior Gambino efforts like his universally acclaimed 2016 LP Awaken, My Love or his multiple Grammy-winning 2018 smash single/video, “This Is America“. In an interview with Complex in 2023, Gambino explained his reasoning for the unusual release of 3.15.20: “I had just lost my father, I had just had a kid, and I was going through a lot. I was having a lot of different new experiences and that’s what I expressed. I think people are right. It would have garnered a different [response]. My wife’s always been like, ‘If you do punk things, you get punk results.’ And it was a punk thing.”

Along with touched-up sonics and other tweaks, the 11-track Atavista included the same guest appearances as the unfinished version (Ariana Grande, Kadhja Bonet, 21 Savage, and Ink) while incorporating new features from Young Nudy and Summer Walker. Although the album art remains mostly white, it now features the subtle inclusion of the new title in grey-outlined letters. He also released a new, Hiro Murai-directed video for “Little Foot Big Foot“.

At the same time, he announced his New World Tour and revealed the coming release of an “all new childish gambino album” over the summer. Glover has said on numerous occasions that the new album, Bando Stone & the New World, released via RCA Records in July, will be his final album as Childish Gambino. It is due to serve as the soundtrack album for an upcoming film of the same name in which Donald Glover stars as a singer trying to survive the apocalypse. Watch a trailer for the film below.
