Cory Wong has announced a new four-day intensive retreat for musicians, Syncopated Summer Camp, set to take place at the Loews Hotel in Nashville August 5th through 8th, 2024.

The camp will offer musicians, especially rhythm section players, a chance to hone their skills and learn from a stacked faculty of master musicians and special guests The Fearless Flyers, Theo Katzman and Larry Carlton. The content will focus on pocket or groove playing—something Wong certainly knows a thing or two about.

“i’ve always wondered why there hasn’t been a camp dedicated to rhythm sections, so i figured i’d start one!” Wong said.

if you know me at all, you know that i am very passionate about rhythm, groove, pocket, and time feel. we are going to discuss and explore all of these topics and more. each night will feature a concert from me, my band, and our special guests. i’ve handpicked all of the instructors not only for their experience and expertise but also for their ability to articulate how and why they do the things they do. this is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn directly from the best of the best.

Among the camp’s all-star faculty are guitar instructors Mark Lettieri, Ariel Posen, and Wong himself, bass instructors Joe Dart, Sonny T., and Yohannes Tona, drum instructors Nate Smith, Petar Janjic, and Aaron Sterling, and keyboard instructors Kevin Gastonguay and Anomalie.

“this camp is for everyone, from beginners to advanced levels,” added Wong.

If you’ve been jamming with your band and you don’t know why things aren’t sitting right or feeling right, this Camp is for you. If you’re a beginner or intermediate player and want to find out more about groove, rhythm, and pocket, this camp is for you. If you’re an advanced player and want to dive into the nuances of time feel and how to arrange for an entire rhythm section, this camp is for you. If you’re a songwriter, producer, orchestrator, or arranger, we are going to dive into all sorts of things on how you can make your rhythm section better, how to write part for your rhythm section better, and how to articulate what it is that you want out of the players that you hire.
