Daniel Donato and his Cosmic Country bandmates will celebrate the release of their new album with their headlining debut at the Ryman Auditorium. The show at Nashville’s Mother Church of Country Music will coincide with the release of Horizons on August 22nd via Retrace Music.
A pre-sale for tickets to Daniel Donato at Ryman Auditorium will begin Tuesday, June 17th at 10 a.m. CT. Fans can sign up on Seated to receive a password for the pre-sale at 9 a.m. CT. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday, June 20th at 10 a.m. CT. This will mark the Nashville-bred DDCC’s fourth trip to the Ryman after opening for Greensky Bluegrass back-to-back nights in March 2024 and returning in August for a slot at the Grand Ole Opry.
Horizons will mark the second consecutive Daniel Donato album of all-original music, following 2023’s Reflector. All the songs on the 15-track collection were played live and road-tested before going into the studio. The band, led by the 30-year-old former child guitar prodigy Donato, once again teamed up with Reflector co-producer Vance Powell (Trey Anastasio, Chris Stapleton, The White Stripes) for the new album.
“I wanted the lyrics to be easy to understand, not abstract,” Donato said of the album. “There are many layers to the meanings and you think about it, but it’s not rocket science to understand them. Trying to maintain a human sound and faith in what humans can do really inform the actual sonics and production of the record, too.”
Ahead of the release, Donato shared a studio recording of longtime live staple “Broadside Ballad”. The original has been in the live rotation since July 2023 and played 109 times to date, per Danielbase, so it’s about as road-tested as a song can get. Thanks to some well-incorporated acoustic guitar that’s absent from live versions, this studio cut takes on a much more upbeat, jangly-Americana vibe that elevates Donato’s typical twang-psych oeuvre. Judging from the polished recording of “Broadside Ballad”, even longtime Cosmic Country fans who keep up with all the latest soundboards are likely to still hear something new on Horizons. Though Donato hasn’t shared the full tracklist, a press release mentions “Blame the Train”, “Sunshine in the Rain”, “Better Deal Blues”, “Along the Trail”, “Hangman’s Reel”, “Prairie Spin”, “Chore”, and album-closer “Down Bedford” will appear on the release.
