On Sunday night, David Byrne rolled through Portland, Oregon, performing a sold-out show at the Keller Auditorium as part of his ongoing and utterly fabulous American Utopia tour. However, on Saturday night, Byrne took advantage of his night off over Memorial Day Weekend, stopping by Portland’s Alibi Tiki Lounge and surprising a whole bunch of fans along the way.

At the karaoke bar, Byrne signed himself up to sing some Prince, offering up his own take on The Purple One’s mega-hit, “When Doves Cry”, the lead single off 1984’s Purple Rain. Based on social media accounts of what went down at the Alibi Tiki Lounge, it also looks like Byrne stuck around before and after his surprise cameo karaoke performance, hanging with fans and the staff at the bar. You can check out videos of David Byrne’s karaoke cover of Prince’s “When Doves Cry” below.
