David Gilmour has shared a video of him covering “If It Be Your Will” by Leonard Cohen, alongside his daughter Romany Gilmour.
The video comes from the ongoing Polly Samson’s A Theatre For Dreamers/Von Trapped live stream series. The virtual event originally began as a platform to promote the Pink Floyd guitarist’s wife Polly Samson‘s new novel, A Theatre For Dreamers. Over the past couple weeks, however, it has grown into a family showcase that highlights Gilmour’s Cohen covers just as much as Samson’s novel. Hence the dual title of A Theatre For Dreamers and Von Trapped family live stream.
This installment featured only one Cohen cover, this time “If It Be Your Will”. The song comes from the late singer’s 1984 album, Various Positions. Over the past couple of weeks, Gilmour has shown a serious penchant for Cohen’s work, diving deep into his catalog with various hidden gems. With the Gilmour family gathered round, complete with dogs and a baby, Romany begins the song with her singing and harp playing. Soon enough, father Gilmour comes in with gentle acoustic guitar and vocal accompaniment. Before long the two are sharing a full fledged duet, their two voices combining and basking in the melancholy hue of Cohen’s lyrics.

Supposedly, this was to be the final installment of the Polly Samson’s A Theatre For Dreamers live stream. Given the evolving format and transition to the Von Trapped family live stream, however, next week may find yet another installment of the Gilmour family serenading viewers with Leonard Cohen covers.
