Sam Grisman and an all-star lineup will join his father, legendary mandolinist David Grisman, AKA Dawg, for a very special 80th birthday celebration at the Moore Theatre in Seattle, WA on March 25th.
Dubbed Dawg at 80, the evening will feature David Grisman himself “performing new compositions, and Sam Grisman playing a retrospective of earlier Dawg music” with the accompaniment of Darol Anger, Danny Barnes, Alex Hargreaves, Dominick Leslie, Mike Marshall, Ronnie McCoury, Todd Phillips, and more.
“For my entire life David Grisman has taught me how to become a better musician and a better person,” Sam Grisman said of his father, who is known for blending bluegrass, folk, and jazz to create his own style called “Dawg music,” and for his duo collaboration with Jerry Garcia as well as his work with bluegrass supergroup Old & In the Way alongside Garcia, Peter Rowan, Vassar Clements, and John Kahn, among other musical endeavors.
Sam continued, “He is also one of my best friends, and my father. Sometimes the gravity of this privilege is hard to articulate. Having an opportunity like this, to gather and honor Dawg music and its creator, with such a legendary amalgamation of friends and heroes, will give us all a chance to show our gratitude with an evening of his music. I am honored to invite you to join us in celebrating the musical universe of David ‘Dawg’ Grisman as he celebrates his 80th birthday, surrounded by family and friends.”
David Grisman added, “Dear friends, I’m so looking forward to this once-in-a-lifetime musical happening. Thanks to Sam, friends and family for putting it together. I hope you all can make it! — Love, Dawg”
