The David Lynch Foundation has announced the Meditate America streaming event set for December 3rd at 7 p.m. ET. The free webcast will raise money for the experimental director’s organization dedicated to promoting transcendental meditation featuring appearances by a mix of musicians and celebrities. Featured performers on the lineup include Sting, Jim James, Graham Nash, Elvis Costello, Kesha, Angelique Kidjo, and The Brooklyn Youth Chorus. Additionally, Hugh Jackman, Deborra-Lee Furness, Katy Perry, Robin Roberts, and George Stephanopoulos will all serve as hosts for the event.
Meditate America will raise funds for the David Lynch Foundation’s “Heal the Healers Now” program, which aims to introduce the practice of transcendental meditation to medical professionals. The Foundation has described the program as,
Even before the Covid-19 pandemic, a Harvard report called physician burnout “a public health crisis that urgently demands action” with several surveys putting the rate of provider burnout as high as 70 percent. The American Academy of Family Physicians linked burnout to higher rates of medical errors, substance abuse and addiction, and suicide among physicians. Today, the situation is far worse, and demands well-documented, innovative approaches to address this crisis. “Heal the Healers Now” is a national initiative to bring the stress-reducing Transcendental Meditation technique to healthcare workers in public hospitals who are battling the coronavirus pandemic.
