Director David Lynch has shared a new music video for “I Have A Radio”, a bonus track from his 2011 album Crazy Clown Time.
While the experimental auteur is best known for the Twin Peaks universe as well as cult classics Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive, and many more, he is also an accomplished musician. “I Have A Radio” is also housed on Lynch’s YouTube page, which has seen a rise in popularity thanks to daily videos from the director reporting the weather and updating fans on his latest project.
The song is, unsurprisingly, low-fi and eerie, just like some of the more experimental pieces of the director’s decade-spanning career. With brooding synths and a down-tempo drum track, the song builds a spooky kind of Trent Reznor feel which is only amplified when Lynch’s distorted voice comes in to speak “I have a radio” on a loop.
The video itself is equally as avant garde and simple, as it features two low-resolution oil figures swinging their arms in unison to the music. Never underestimate Lynch’s ability to take the weirdness up another notch, however, as toward the end of the 6:10 minute composition, the arthouse favorite throws in some pig noises for good measure.
