The stars came out for DJ Logic & Friends at Park City Music Hall in Bridgeport, CT on Saturday. The all-improv show featured guest appearances from members of Goose, lespecial, Kung Fu, and more.
Ahead of the concert, Park City Music Hall showed its cards with a social media post telling audiences to expect sit-ins from members of Goose, lespecial, and Lotus. One of those came true right off the bat as the evening’s starting roster began with DJ Logic joined by Lotus’ Jesse Miller (bass) and Mike Greenfield (drums) alongside John Medeski (keyboards) and Dopapod‘s Rob Compa (guitar).
After nearly 45-minutes of deeply exploratory, nearly uninterrupted improvisation, the band welcomed its first guest, saxophonist Rob Somerville. The Kung Fu horn blower joined the group on one more bout of improvisation before the band took a set break, with much more in store for the rest of the evening.
Taking the Park City Music Hall stage once again, DJ Logic was joined by the original starting lineup plus Somerville. The ensemble jumped right back into the improv, only to welcome Goose’s Rick Mitarotonda to the stage after about 20 minutes of exploration. The stage became a revolving door in the second set, as further on in the night bassist Luke Bemand and drummer Rory Dolan of lespecial hopped up to give Miller and Greenfield a breather. There was still one more surprise in store as guitarist James “Fuzz” Sangiovanni of Deep Banana Blackout joined DJ Logic & Friends as the final guest of the evening. Rob Compa would then sub back in for one last jam with the original lineup to close out the evening.
