A little dog with a big suit earned first place in a costume contest “wearing” a miniature version of the iconic look from Talking Heads frontman David Byrne.

“I wanted my head to appear smaller, and the easiest way to do that was to make my body bigger,” Byrne famously said of the big suit he wore on stage with Talking Heads, including in the recently remastered concert film Stop Making Sense. When your head is already tiny, though, the suit doesn’t have to be so big, as one creative dog owner discovered.

Dressed as the lamp that David Byrne dances with in Stop Making Sense, complete with a lampshade on her head and “Stop Making Sense” written on her sweatshirt for context, the owner carried Gertie, an 18-year-old chihuahua, in a backpack with her head sticking out and a small, toddler-sized suit draped to look like she was wearing it. Gertie competed against nearly 100 dogs at Brooklyn, NY’s Fort Greene PUPS25th Annual Great PUPkin Dog Costume Contest including Doggy Parton and a doggy DJ honoring of the 50th anniversary of hip-hop. Her inventive and timely costume took home first place while also celebrating the re-release of Stop Making Sense, which is now in theaters.

Talking Heads recently reunited for the first time in years and have been making the rounds on the interview circuit to promote the film. Last week the band visited The Late Show With Stephen Colbert for its first late-night talk show appearance in decades. After admitting that he was a Talking Heads super-fan himself, the host invited the band to walk over to the bandstand and play together, but we are “still waiting” for that musical reunion.
