On Thursday, Dopapod hit the stage at Resonance Music & Arts Festival in Slippery Rock, PA. The Resonance set marked just the band’s fifth official performance since reuniting after a year-long hiatus with a milestone blowout at The Capitol Theatre in April.

The Resonance set also came at the end of a special 10-day period. Each day from Tuesday, 9/10/19 through Thursday, 9/19/19, the numerically abbreviated date has been a palindrome, meaning it reads the same both forwards and backwards. As any Dopapod fan will tell you, this band is big on palindromes. From the band name itself to their various palindromic album releases (Emit Time, Megagem, Never Odd or Even, Redivider, Drawn Onward, I Saw Live Dopapod Evil Was I, Radar, etc.), Dopapod has always leaned heavily on symmetrical nomenclature. In honor of the last day of 2019 “palindrome season,” Dopapod structured their Resonance setlist on 9/19/19 to spell out “PALINDROMES.”

After kicking off the set with Megagem cut “Plaese Haalp”, the band moved into a cover of System of a Down‘s “Aerials”. Emit Time track “Landmines” served as the “L” in the setlist, followed by Radar cut “Indian Grits” in the “I” slot. Next, Dopapod moved into a pair of exciting covers in Radiohead‘s “Nude” and Led Zeppelin‘s “Dazed and Confused”.

From there, the band sent it back to 2012’s Drawn Onward for renditions of “Roid Rage” and “Onionhead” before returning to Megagem territory with “Mucho”. Finally, Dopapod capped off their set—and their Resonance “spelling bee”—with something old and something new: the first rendition of one of their oldest songs (“Ellemenno”) since before their hiatus and the first-ever live reading of “Same Damn Thing“, the title track to guitarist Rob Compa‘s recently-released solo album.
