New Haven, CT quartet Eggy will begin a new tradition on March 23rd, 2024 at Brooklyn, NY’s Brooklyn Bowl with the band’s first-ever Purim celebration. The band first revealed the news of its 2024 Purim show during its sold-out headlining debut at the Brooklyn, NY live music venue/bowling alley earlier this month.

For those unfamiliar, Purim is a Jewish holiday known for incorporating a number of lively, festive customs including indulging in alcohol, wearing masks and costumes, and exchanging gifts of food and drink. Simply put, Purim is the wildest party on the Jewish calendar, and Eggy hopes to forge a new tradition with its fans surrounding the annual celebration.

As Jake Brownstein (guitar, vocals) explained to Live For Live Music of the concept, “Everyone’s doing Halloween, everyone’s doing New Year’s. … We don’t always have to compete for the special day. Let’s make a special day. Purim is the time that everyone gets to party in Judaism. … To create this kind of weird environment where people are like, ‘Why am I dressing up in March?’ will be cool.”

The Purim announcement comes on the heels of Friday’s release of “You”, the first new studio single from Eggy since 2022’s two-song Nashville Tapes. “You”, featuring contemplative lead vocals by drummer Alex Bailey, propels along an unpredictable path by way of a simple, plodding groove via keyboardist Dani Battat and bassist Mike Goodman. The song’s lush sonics, meandering melody, and quotable final refrain lend it a sense of grandiosity that evokes the whims of late-’60s psychedelic innovators while a tastefully curtailed closing guitar solo from Brownstein hints at the untold ground to be covered when this studio track eventually makes its way to the stage.
