On Friday, Colorado-based funk outfit Envy Alo released their newest single, “Only Way”, marking the band’s first release from their forthcoming sophomore album, Ship It, due out in January 2020.

The six-piece—comprised of Callie Morrocco (vocals), Kevin Hinder (guitar, vocals), Nate Etter (drums), Kevin Supina (saxophone, vocals), Karl Summers (bass), and Aaron Pettine (keys)— is fresh off a mountain west tour through Wyoming and Montana and has been in the studio recording fresh, new music since their 2018 Cruise Control release, and their video release for “Be Good” earlier this year.

Recorded at Evergroove Studio in Evergreen, CO, “Only Way” is a blues rocker that reels you in and doesn’t let go. The track is driven by the fierce, [Jimi] Hendrix-inspired guitar work of Hinder, who also wrote the music and lyrics to the tune. Morrocco’s passionate vocals strike through your body, resonating the break-up song with real lyrics over Supina’s saxophone harmonies and Pettine’s organ chords. The rhythm section of Summers’ thunderous bass and Etter’s rich drumming keep the energy high and the tempo locked.

As Etter describes the song, “The first time I heard this tune, I knew Hinder was onto something special. The riff screamed of Jimi Hendrix, and the vocals were perfectly suited for Callie’s voice. Over the last year it has molded into one of our strongest live tunes, a go-to set-closer, and a logical pick for a single to present our sound to a wider audience.”
