Austin, Texas, was presented a very special treat last night when the Eric Krasno Trio brought their groovy rock jams to Empire Garage for an unofficial Austin City Limits Festival after-party featuring some exciting guest appearances.
Canadian-born guitarist Sue Foley, a staple in the Austin blues scene for over twenty-five years, joined the trio for Foley’s “The Ice Queen” and a hauntingly beautiful rendition of Little Milton’s “That’s What Love Will Make You Do” (also a favorite cover of the Jerry Garcia Band).
To everyone’s excitement, surprise guest Billy Strings, who plays at the Austin City Limits festival grounds on Sunday, October 6th, joined E3 for the latter half of their energetic set. While predominantly an acoustic man, Billy took his new baby blue Fender on its maiden voyage for this extended sit-in.
With Billy onstage, the band launched into Krasno’s “Fire Eater” before moving through a string on crowd-pleasing covers including the Allman Brothers Band‘s “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed”, Jerry Garcia/Robert Hunter‘s “Sugaree”, and a set-closing take on Stevie Ray Vaughan‘s “Lenny”.
Both Eric Krasno and Billy Strings are hot of the release of brand new albums. On September 27th, Krasno released his new concept album, TELESCOPE, under the banner of KRAZ. That same day, Billy Strings released his latest studio LP, HOME. Songs from both new albums were included on the October 2019 edition of Live For Live Music‘s new serial Spotify playlist, the Monthly Mix.
