Eric Moore took to social media on Monday to announce that he will be leaving King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. Moore served as both the drummer and manager of the neo-psychedelic Australian act as well as the head of the band’s label, Flightless Records.
While Moore will no longer provide percussive accompaniment to fellow drummer Michael Cavanagh, he will remain an instrumental part of the band via his work at Flightless. The label, and Moore’s management of the group, are credited with raising the band’s international profile with such moves as releasing Polygondwanaland as a free download or reissuing many of King Gizzard’s early records back in 2018.

In the post on the Flightless Records page, Moore gave no specific reason for his departure, saying simply that “my time with King Gizz has come to an end.” He quickly assured fans that he will continue to work with the band to put out records, just not as a performer or manager. On the band’s official Instagram page, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard made a post of their own praising Moore and his “immeasurable contribution to the band.” According to them, Moore has left to focus solely on Flightless Records.
