Night two of Billy Strings and Terry Barber‘s Family Strings mini-tour was live-streamed on Friday, which saw the father and son play dozens of bluegrass and folk covers to a packed City Opera House in Traverse City, MI.

The Family Strings mini-tour made its way to four Michigan cities over the weekend, including Bay City, Ionia, and Ann Arbor, where the father-son duo put their pickin’ prowess on full display. Throughout Friday night’s two-set show, Strings and Barber played their acoustic guitars and traded lead vocal duties.

Set one included covers of the Delmore Brothers‘ “Brown’s Ferry Blues”; Doc Watson‘s “Windy and Warm”, “Way Downtown”, and “Bye Bye Blues”; Bill Monroe‘s “Tall Pines”, “Big Sandy River”, and “Long Journey Home”; the Stanley Brothers‘ “Mother’s Not Dead”; J.D. Crowe & The Kentucky Mountain Boys‘ “Portrait of the Blues”; George Gershwin‘s “Summertime”; and Jimmy Martin‘s “There’s A Little White Church In The Valley”. Strings made sure to mention that the two did not prepare a setlist for the shows. They had written down a list of songs they played together throughout the years and let the next songs come naturally.

The Doc Watson and Bill Monroe covers continued during set two. Throughout the second frame, Strings and Barber covered Watson’s “Dig A Little Deeper in the Well”, “Groundhog”, “Beaumont Rag”, “Let the Cocaine Be”, and “Streamline Cannonball”. Bill Monroe covers included “Salt Creek” and “Little Cabin Home on the Hill”. The duo also performed a fantastic rendition of The Beatles‘ “Here Comes the Sun” along with covers of Arthur Collins‘ “The Preacher and the Bear”; Jimmie Rodgers‘ “Miss the Mississippi and You”; The Hill Billies‘ “Georgia Buck”; Hattie Nevada‘s “The Letter Edged in Black”; Roy Acuff‘s “Willie Roy”; Charlie Poole & The North Carolina Ramblers‘ “Don’t Let Your Deal Go Down”; and The Country Gentlemen‘s “Bringing Mary Home”.
