The Flaming Lips And Mac DeMarco To Release New Album Of Covers Of Each Other

Back in April, The Flaming Lips and Mac DeMarco announced that they would team up for an eight-date co-headlined U.S. tour spanning through the middle of September through the beginning of October. Both acts have been touring heavily solo this summer with plans to continue through to the fall. DeMarco’s shows are part of an extensive world tour in support of his new album This Old Dog, while The Flaming Lips are also on tour in support of a new LP Oczy Mlody, with both tours terminating with their shared dates in September and October. However, yesterday, The Flaming Lips’ frontman Wayne Coyne announced that ahead of the joint tour, the two acts will release a brand-new split EP. Though the details were somewhat sparse, in an Instagram post showing Coyne practicing DeMarco’s “Chamber of Refections,” Coyne noted that the album will feature The Flaming Lips covering three Mac DeMarco songs and Mac DeMarco covering three Flaming Lips tracks, and that he hope the studio effort will be released both on vinyl and cassette.

The eight dates for The Flaming Lips and Mac DeMarco’s coheadlined fall tour run from September 17th, kicking things off in St. Paul, Minnesota, through to October 5th, ending in Phoenix, Arizona. During the two week period, the two acts will head east across the midwest, eventually hitting Niagara Falls, New York, before moving onto three Texas dates and then their final Phoenix performance.
