The Free Nationals, who, at the moment, are likely best known by most music fans for their affiliation with Anderson .Paak as his backing band, were the special guests on last night’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The band is beginning to make the media rounds as they prepare for the forthcoming release of their self-titled debut album, which is set to arrive on December 13th via OBE, LLC/EMPIRE.

The band’s televised performance on Sunday was that of their single, “Gidget”. The song already carries smooth musical grooves and a dance-worthy rhythm, but .Paak’s vocal presence on the single really drives it into FM radio-friendly territory. The recorded version of the song to be included on the forthcoming album will also feature a guest appearance from T.Nava, who provided backing vocals from his position behind his keyboard towards the back of the stage.

“Gidget” follows previously-released singles including “Beauty & Essex”, “Time”, “On Sight”, “Eternal Light”, and “Shibuya” as one of the 13 total tracks to appear on Free Nationals. The album will also feature more notable guest appearances from artists including Daniel Caesar & Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Syd Tha Kyd of The Internet, T.I., Mac Miller, and Kali Uchis.

The latter two were included on the song “Time”, which was one of the many song selections on the Live For Live Music Monthly Mix in November. You can listen to the full playlist below and head here to read about why we chose each song.
