Galactic shared its take on a Christmas classic this week, covering “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town”. The band tapped longtime collaborator Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph for vocal work on the holiday staple.

Galactic brought the funk on this cover from the very first measure. After opening with the song’s riff from guitarist Jeff Raines, along with claps from the percussion section, bassist Robert Mercurio leads the rest of the band into the main groove. Joseph’s vocals fall into the mix perfectly and as a whole, the band almost makes the listener forget that it’s a Christmas song.
As Joseph moves into the first chorus, Galactic’s horn section becomes more prominent, bringing the New Orleans funk vibes to another level. Midway through, Rich Vogel takes a short, but sweet, solo on his Hammond before Joseph’s vocals emerge over the mix once more, bringing the song back to the chorus for the final time.
