Beloved New Orleans funk outfit Galactic and featured vocalist Jelly Joseph traveled north this weekend for a pair of sold-out performances at Brooklyn, NY’s Brooklyn Bowl.

Ahead of the swaggering, brass-fueled two-night affair, band members Jelly Joseph and Stanton Moore squeezed some extra excitement into their Big Easy-to-Big Apple itinerary with a Friday pre-show trip to a New York Rangers game at Madison Square Garden with Brooklyn Bowl owner Peter Shapiro. As Saturday’s sold-out Galactic show at Brooklyn Bowl wound down, Shapiro took the stage to congratulate the band and acknowledge the meaningful occasion with a story from the venue’s early days. As he explained, while attempting to convince fellow decorated concert promoter Ron Delsener of the new venue/bowling alley’s viability during an early visit, he had told Delsener to picture Galactic performing on that stage. Now, he said, that imagined scenario had come to fruition with a successful weekend in Williamsburg.
