Those familiar with Kings of the Nighttime World KISS and their resident God of Thunder Gene Simmons know that the Demon/bassist has led a life peculiar to most rock stars in that he has never once drank alcohol or gotten high on drugs—or has he? In a new interview on comedian Tom Segura‘s Your Mom’s House podcast, Simmons recounts the one time he got high on pot, but according to the 74-year old rock legend, it was a total accident.

Though he has refrained from some of more insidious vices associated with the rock and roll lifestyle, Simmons is notorious for his sexual exploits, and women are not his only weakness. In addition to his taste for blood, the KISS co-founder has a bit of a sweet tooth. That’s why when he discovered a plate of brownies backstage during a concert in Detroit, he helped himself to six of them, not realizing that they contained a special ingredient.

“He’s so removed from drug culture that he didn’t know that you can bake cannabis into baked goods,” says Gene’s son Nick Simmons, who joined Segura, his wife Christina Pazsitzky, and his father for the podcast.

“Who does that?” Gene responds.

He goes on to describe the experience, saying his head felt like it shrunk down to the size of an olive while his hands grew huge, and he was convinced no one could hear him, so he overcompensated by starting to yell. Luckily, he was whisked away in a limo like a true rock star, though that wasn’t the end of the story.

He describes stopping at a neighborhood corner store where he loudly ordered a glass of milk, convinced that everyone was staring at him because his head was small, rather than because he was dressed like a rock star. And no Gene Simmons story would be complete without a mention of his infamous schmeckle.

“I will say that I’ve never been as big in my life,” he says, to which his son responds, “Jesus Christ.”
