What if there was a way to send customized personal messages from notable musicians from within the jam scene by way of digital telegrams to friends and family who are currently in self-quarantined settings? That was the idea from Jen Giuliano, who has come up with an innovative way for music fans to stay engaged during this time of mass self-distancing.
In the wake of the modern world gradually shutting down, Giuliano launched Good Vibes Grams, a virtual telegram service which allows anyone to commission a personalized video message via email from over two dozen artists including Anders Osborne, Aron Magner (The Disco Biscuits), Cris Jacobs, Jennifer Hartswick and Natalie Cressman (Trey Anastasio Band), Nate Werth (Ghost-Note, Snarky Puppy), Nicholas Cassarino and Nikki Glaspie (The Nth Power), Ryan Stasik (Umphrey’s McGee), Shira Elias (Turkuaz), and more.
Fans have the option to send a “BDAY VIBES” gram for $45, which includes a performance of “Happy Birthday to You” by the artist of their choice; an “XTRA LOVE VIBES” gram for $65, which features a song of the artist’s choosing and a well-wishing message; or an “ULTIMATE VIBES” gram for $75, which includes a song of the sender’s choice with a custom message from the artist.
“There is a vibe deficit and a lot of musicians out of work,” Giuliano explains to Live For Live Music. “I am happy to create a platform that is a vehicle for joy while giving artists the opportunity to generate revenue. We could all use a little love right now.”
“This was the best idea during this insane time,” added, Sara MacConnell a fan who utilized the digital service for her mother. “I was so excited to share a Good Vibes Gram with my mom for her birthday while we are so far apart. Jen Hartswick was so sweet and kind in her video. It was personal even though they had never met. It brought so much light in an uneasy time.”
